Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some common questions we receive about our dances. If you have a question that's not listed below, feel free to contact us and we'll answer it for you!

01

Do I need to know how to dance already?

Nope. We have a free lesson every week for beginners and one for more intermediate dancers as well. So if you've never danced before, or are more comfortable with the basics, we have a lesson for you! Just show up and we'll get you going. There are always a ton of beginners, so you won't be the only one. Just jump in and have fun!

02

Do I need to have a partner?

Again, no. Here at CSU Swing Society, we encourage dancing with a great variety of people. That's what makes you a better dancer! In our lessons, we encourage our participants to rotate partners so that everyone has a chance to practice what's being taught with a variety of different partners. Also, during our dances, everybody dances with everybody. You can definitely bring a partner if you'd like (the more the merrier! Bring all your friends!), but it's not a requirement.

03

What do I wear?

Whatever you want! There's no dress code for CSU Swing Society (within the limits of civilized society, that is), so wear something that is comfortable and won't get too hot while you're dancing. Jeans and t-shirts are fine, skirts and heels are fine. Most dancers agree that the shoes are the most important thing: make sure they're comfortable and won't go flying off! We recommend shoes from either Target or Payless Shoe Source that have smooth soles with no grip.
